ToT Wishes You a Happy New Year!

Those of you who have been paying attention will already have read ToT's seasons greetings a little early in Gamakna #5 a few days ago. For the rest of you, on the first day of the new year, ToT and everyone here at Ankama wish you a wonderful 2018!

Dear all,

Here we are at the end of 2017. It's been a year rich in unforeseen developments, inflamed discussions, and impassioned creations.

Major updates have followed one another in both of our historic games, DOFUS and WAKFU. Their little brothers, Krosmaga and DOFUS Touch, have also had their share of good news, and we have launched an in-house "mobile games" team, whose first game (Drag'n'Boom) was so successful that we decided to keep going. Finally, we are also very happy to have started producing DOFUS Cube (I give you updates about its progress regularly on my personal blog).

On the animation side of things, Wakfu Season 3 has got tongues wagging, and the movie Mutafukaz won people's hearts at its premieres in Annecy, San Diego, and Los Angeles. It even had the honor of making it into the Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival's official selection. Abraca, the series that we have been working on for several years now, has finally entered production, and our new movie, Princess Dragon, is on track to follow suit next year.

Ankama Editions (our publishing division) hasn't been outdone either, with some very nice projects that have warmed our hearts throughout the year. Maudoux and Run are still growing Freaks' Squeele and Mutafukaz, their respective universes, through spin-offs such as Funérailles and Puta Madre. Mig brought Franck Thilliez's novel to life by drawing Puzzle, and Mathieu Bablet signed the big hit of the year with Shangri-La.

Finally, board game fans have been in for real treats with games like Stellium and Gang Rush. I'd like to take this opportunity to offer my wholehearted thanks to the 5,484 people who supported Monster Slaughter on Kickstarter, raising almost 400,000 euros for the project. Coming in February: Krosmaster Boufbowl and Henhouse Havoc

That's it for a non-exhaustive recap of 2017.

In 2018, we obviously want to go further, be even more creative, and live up to your expectations.

Once again, thank you all for sticking with us. Whether you're a reader, player, or viewer, your support is what allows us to work on these projects.

On behalf of everyone here at Ankama, I hope you'll enjoy the winter holidays and have a happy new year!

Having his camera borrowed (actually stolen) by the Amakna bandits, Marco Conut wants you to share your Horrib Isle adventure by means of drawing. In return, the Tourist Agency agent will provide you with enticing rewards!

Horrib Isle would have been the perfect place to spend your holiday getting a tan and enjoying the different resort activities, if not for the ghouls and skeletons wandering about.

Marco Conut would like you to document your adventure by featuring your character in Horrib Isle with its places of interests, monsters and NPCs! As an example, you're finding your way in the Underground Ghoullery, or you're fighting countless Ghouls at Plateau Ribilis to get their heads for Chris Tall. On the lighter side, you're surfing with B'one Shot and Staff Deleghoul! There’s no limit to your imagination!

How to Participate?

  • The fanart must be matching the theme "My Horrib Isle Adventure".
  • You can choose to use traditional (pencil, pens), or digital (computer) methods, in black and white or colored.
  • Each participant must only submit one fanart either by
    • Posting it in the comments section of this news
    • Posting it on Twitter, using the hashtag #DTHorribIsle and tagging @DOFUSTouch_EN

Event: The Thwee Kings Cake

As always this time of year, Barf, a.k.a. the big bad Wa Wabbit, gets bored in his castle and starts to stir up a bit too much twouble. Miss Engere has suggested you go wring his neck and is even offering a reward for doing so. Ready to try?

For some time now, and even more than usual, the Lenald survivors are suffering like martyrs on Wabbit Island because of the Wa's whims.

The Lenalds have asked Miss Engere to find help in Amakna. You need to get your quest from her before you storm Wabbit Castle. And she'll have a nice reward for you if you manage to fulfill your mission!

Enough chatting. Time to get down to business!

Event Details

From Thursday, January 4, 2018 10:00 AM CET to Thursday, January 11 10:00 AM CET, the NPC Miss Engere will be hosting this event in the form of a quest. You'll need to accept the quest at any of the following locations: the Astrub Zaap, the Amakna Village Zaap, the Temple of Scriptures Zaap, or from the Bontarian or Brakmarian Militia.

The Reward

Once you've completed Miss Engere's quest, she will reward you with the Trophy Wa Wabbit Shield that allows you to unlock the title Wa Wabbit Slayer.

The event ends on 10:00 AM CET on January 11, and you will no longer be able to earn your reward.

Useful Tips

  • You must go through Miss Engere in order to participate and complete the event. If you kill the Wa Wabbit without accepting the quest beforehand, you will not earn the reward.
  • Killing the Wa Wabbit in the Arena does not complete the quest.
  • Miss Engere will also launch other in-game events in the future!

Good luck, everyone!

Nindash is Coming to iOS!

In kawaii but dangerous medieval Japan, hordes of skeletons are rising and persistently advancing on a small, quiet village. Who will be crazy enough to stand in their way and make them bite the dust? The ninjas, of course! Become one, unlock others, and save the world right now on your mobile device!

It's never a good sign when the dead walk the earth. This terrible curse, due to reading an old, stolen scroll, may lead the world to destruction… But that's forgetting a handful of fighters who are masters in the art of ninjutsu!

For the thousands of bags of bones descending upon the world, it might just be a cold shower when they get dashed!

Stealthy, fiery, and – most of all – ready to fight, the ninjas will be able to put all their survival techniques to work, starting with sliding and hitting as fast as they can. Keen on cleaning up after themselves, there won't be any trace left of the demons straight out of hell.

Embody a ninja and become the last line of defense against the apocalypse!

In a row, head on, or from the side – your ninja obeys you at the twitch of a finger and descends on the enemy like a whirlwind. You do, however, need to find their weak points: some are armed (shields, lances, bombs), whereas others are highly cunning! If you survive the bosses and their minigames, try and mix things up…

In short, Nindash is:

  • An arcade game, now available exclusively on iOS;
  • 90 levels, 6 bosses, and 11 types of skeletons to confront;
  • Over 30 different ninjas to unlock;
  • And best of all: It's free!

Get your shurikens ready: Nindash is coming for your smartphones!

Focus on Sebbasb, Community Helper

Did you play on DOFUS PC before starting your DOFUS Touch adventure?

Yes I started playing in 2008, and when I played it for the first time I liked it a lot and it became my favorite game! I spent a lot of good times playing on the Aguabrial server with my Cra.

Si jugué Dofus de Pc, empece a jugar en el año 2008 y cuando lo jugué por primera vez me gusto mucho y se convirtió en mi juego favorito, pasé muchos buenos momentos jugando en el servidor Aguabria con mi Ocra.

What attracted you to play DOFUS Touch?

I was bored one day and I saw people talking about DOFUS Touch so I went to look for it on the Play Store and I immediately downloaded it. I instantly remembered the time I was playing DOFUS PC. Brutas server just opened so it was normal to see people grouping up and farming Gobballs for its set. Another aspect that brought back memories of DOFUS PC (1.28) was the tough competition of being the server’s first level 200.

Can you explain to our readers the role of a Community Helper?

A Community Helper is a volunteer (Ankama does not give us anything) that is responsible for guiding players that do not have much experiencing playing DOFUS Touch. With my experience of almost 10 years, it is easy for me to guide these players. Community Helpers are active on the Newbies chat and you can identify us with a star before our name. If you need help, do not hesitate to contact us, we will be there for you. ;)

What made you decide to become a Community Helper?

I have always liked the idea of being able to play and help other people. While reading the DOFUS Touch website, I saw that there was a call to be a Community Helper. I did not hesitate to send my application, and then I went to Discord and got a message from [Flatops] that I had been chosen for this great job.

What advise can you give to a totally new player?

It will not be easy to have everything you want, it will be hard but not impossible and most importantly, enjoy the game.

No va ha ser fácil tener todo lo que quieres, será un camino duro pero no imposible y lo mas importante: Disfruta el juego.

Do you have a final message to our readers?

Yes, thanks to all those that have accompanied me in DOFUS Touch: Hart, Kempache, Kontuz, Cuerbok and all the Brutas players that make the game have a good atmosphere. Playing with all of you makes the game great!

Bworkoward, the new chief of the Bworks, is wreaking havoc to the north of Cania in order to earn his tribe's respect. But King Allister doesn't see it that way and wants you to help calm things down. And there's a nice reward in it for you!

Whenever a new chief takes charge of a Bwork tribe, he must assert his newfound status by going out to capture Trools. Today, it's Bworkoward's turn, which explains the sudden arrival of his tribe to the north of Cania.

Terrified by his "charming" aunt's stories, he's decided to call on the Bworker's fearsome troops. We don't need to tell you that it's a real mess, what with the Bworks, Trools, Boowolves… and even Lord Crow getting involved!

Lord Crow has contacted King Allister with his worries about the safety of Amakna's lumberjacks working in Eltneg. Given the urgency of the situation, the king has decided to call on your services, via Miss Engere, to restore order ASAP!

Event Details

Starting now and until Tuesday, January 23 (before maintenance), Bworks, Goblins, Boowolves and Trools will be invading the north of Cania.

This invasion is divided into three sections, according to your level:

  • Tier 1: Bworks and Goblins (level 50) south of the Bwork Camp, with the Carved Bone item up for grabs. This item can be recovered by characters level 1 to 100.

  • Tier 2: Boowolves and Trools (level 100) in the Bwork Camp, to the right of The Crow's Domain, with the Pointed Tooth item up for grabs. This item can only be recovered by characters level 101 to 150.

  • Tier 3: Bworker's monsters (level 180) in The Crow's Domain area, with the Spinal Cord quest item up for grabs. This item can only be recovered by characters level 151 to 200.

The quest items cannot be recovered outside the areas indicated above.

Each server must bring to the NPC Miss Engere a certain number of these quest items in order to unlock the reward! She can be found at: the Amakna Village Zaap, the Astrub Zaap, the Temple of Scriptures Zaap, and the Bontarian and Brakmarian Militia.

For this event, Miss Engere does not offer quests but acts as the accountant for your resources. A true Swiss army knife!

Most Frequently Asked Questions

$
0
0

Below, you will find a list of the most frequently asked questions about everything DOFUS Touch. This list will be kept up to date regularly!

Current Questions

When will the interface be adapted for the iPhone X?

It is on our schedule, but these things take time. The iPhone X has forced us to update part of the code, as well as requiring our machines to adjust to the format. This takes some time, and can lead to undesirable effects that must be anticipated. In any case, we've heard you!

General Questions

When will a new server be opened?

Although we understand the interest and enthusiasm that opening a new server may lead to, we do not find this relevant for the long term. This would not only lead to the existing servers becoming depopulated, but would also put Ankama and the community in an undesirable situation.

Is a Heroic Server (permanent death of characters) planned to be opened, like in DOFUS PC?

No, for the above reasons, but also because it would represent too great a workload to be something sufficiently efficient and reliable at this time, to the detriment of the rest of the game. The permanent death of characters leaves no room for error – for both players and staff!

When will you merge the servers (for example Grandapan and Dodge)?

We cannot merge servers at the moment due to technical limitations of our tools.

Will there be new classes in DOFUS Touch?

This is not planned at the present time, even though we're thinking about it!

What about the Class Revamps that have been performed in DOFUS PC?

These revamps are not planned for DOFUS Touch. However, some existing spells may be balanced in future updates.

Speaking of revamps, what about the Professions?

Although this revamp – done in DOFUS PC – at first seemed very interesting to us in terms of adaptation for mobile devices, we ended up abandoning the idea because the project would have monopolized the whole team for several weeks, or even several months.

When will the Class Change Potion be available?

In 2017, we confirmed that we wanted to integrate this potion into the Shop. We know that many players are looking forward to it, which is why we looked into the workload it represented, only to realize that we cannot achieve it at the present time. We are as disappointed as you about this news.

Before integrating the Class Change Potion, it is necessary to:

  • Rebuild the characteristic point system (at present, the game cannot tell the difference between natural points and ones acquired through scrolls);
  • Standardize each class's characteristic point levels, implying the need to:
    • Review class spells' damage and change the levels concurrently,
    • Review spells' critical hit rates, and
    • Review critical hit damage and change the rate of critical hits concurrently; and
  • Change many items of equipment in terms of their requirements and damage.

It should be remembered that we cannot build on the work done in DOFUS PC, since these changes were made well after the version of it that DOFUS Touch is derived from: The spells were not the same at that time.

All this, plus the potion itself, would mean several months' work for the entire team, full time. We would not be able to work on anything else during that time. It would be a very bad strategic choice for the game right now.

Will it someday be possible to transfer a character from one server to another?

This service is not currently on our schedule, but we may look into it one day.

Are there any plans to implement the DOFUS PC Sidekick System or the WAKFU Hero System?

No, nothing is planned for the moment, but we had already first thought about this in 2017.

When will there be an in-game Group Search Feature for dungeons?

Same answer as above!

Have you thought about implementing Treasure Hunts?

Yes! However, the DOFUS system is not at all adapted to the mobile format. We are therefore looking at various possibilities better adapted to DOFUS Touch. Maybe we will perform some tests during upcoming major updates!

Do you plan on introducing new areas from DOFUS PC: the Divine Dimensions, Mishell, etc.?

No, when it comes to adding areas, we plan on producing some brand new ones such as Horrib Isle

Could You Reintroduce Tracking (1v1 PvP)?

No, there are no plans to implement it. For more details please see this post.

What About the 1v1 Kolossium, in that case?

This is kind of the same answer as for the Class Change Potion: It's something that we would really like to implement, but that would be detrimental to far too many things right now.

Why not create your own PC version or allow modified clients and emulators?

Simply because DOFUS Touch is designed uniquely for mobile devices, which is a choice made by Ankama! A PC version is already available: DOFUS.

As for modified clients, they cause substantial in-game imbalances and are simply not reliable; nothing prevents their developers from retrieving your login details.

Are you planning an in-game Voice Chat System?

While we correctly understand the interest of such a system, it is not planned for now. However, other applications may be useful in this area in order to communicate with your friends (and the staff!), such as Discord. DOFUS Touch has its own dedicated server here.

DOFUS Touch Missive #10

It's a new year and a tenth missive, as luck would have it! We're going to rise to the occasion by unveiling a little more about our plans for 2018. Happy reading!

This Year's Theme

The team chose 2018's theme! It will form the pattern of all this year's updates, at least in terms of changing and adding content, and the various in-game events (whether PvM or PvP).

The question now on everyone's lips: What is this famous theme?

Well, you'll find out over the coming months and updates! How cruel… *diabolical laugh*

Keep an eye on our various media and announcements if you want to gather clues, little by little. Moreover, the first one was in the latest Gamakna, and, since we're nice, we'll give you a reminder of it here, along with how it's developed through our genius illustrator Maba's sketches!

We will be using this image to dress up our various media channels throughout the year!

Rest assured: You won't have to wait long to find out more in the next major update! Speaking of which…

A Shadow Hangs Over the Millicluster

Through this letter, the advisor of our good King Allister (where would we be without him?) announces the next major update's flavor!

When will the update be released?

The next major update will be released in March, which is incidentally when a first strange event is taking place in the World of Twelve, through small, brand new event-based content.

What will this event-based content provide?

This content will be spread out over several points throughout the year and will let you find out more about 2018's theme.

This time, there's no new zone; however, you will have the chance to face new monsters and craft a new level 170 set (Earth/Strength)!

This is our way to introduce the theme of the year as we wish to give it a good foundation. As you will see in a future article, history takes a significant place in DOFUS and DOFUS Touch!

Why is there a militia here?

What else will there be in the update?

Other new features and improvements are planned for the update, but you'll find out more about that in due course! Development is still ongoing, and we prefer not to make any promises we might not be able to keep.

We wouldn't want to spoil any surprises now, would we? (Even if the community managers have all done their best to do so!)

In particular, we took advantage of this update to work tirelessly on our first inter-server tournament. Let's hop to it!

First Inter-Server PvP Tournament

A few weeks after the March update, we're planning on launching the first DOFUS Touch inter-server tournament.

This tournament is connected to the background of this year's theme.

How will the tournament unfold?

A dedicated server will be set up for the tournament, with the new PvP zone we told you about several weeks ago. The new maps in this area will be accessible on your home servers once the tournament is over. After that you will have plenty of time to host your own fights!

What's more, a small part of this zone is used for the three ongoing and upcoming community tournaments on Oshimo, Terra Cogita, and Herdegrize! Alright then, a little map spoiler:

The Rogue map was used for the first time on Herdegrize's Astral Cup

These three competitions are carefully organized, allowing us to adjust how we do, while offering you a little warm-up and some fun on your server.

Who can participate and how?

Although we haven't had the opportunity to organize any on the three other servers – Brutas, Grandapan, and Dodge – they may still be part of this first inter-server tournament!

Each participant will have to register with one of their existing characters on the official servers. A minimum level (to be determined) will be required to ensure the quality of participants.

For example, if you want to play an Iop on the tournament server, you would need to register with your Iop (making sure that it has reached the required level). This will avoid players who participate with a class that is unfamiliar to them.

Another rule we would like to have is to limit particular classes to a team. From our first community tournaments, we  limited the following classes to one per team: Sacrier, Eniripsa, Xelor, Osamodas and Feca.

For the next tournaments on Oshimo and Terra Cogita, we will test the rule used at DOFUS' 10 Year Tournament, namely limiting certain pairs on a team. Here's a sample list:

We will decide on a later time which rule would be viable and interesting.

For this first official tournament, we're sticking with a 3v3 format, which has proven effective on the PC version, but also in DOFUS Touch, with the community tournaments that are becoming more and more numerous!

What about level, equipment and the rest?

All participants will be at the same level during the tournament (only on the dedicated server, of course!), Ievel 200.

A cache of equipment will be made available to you, including pets and mounts. As for smithmagic, it will not be available on this server, but a +1 AP/MP/Range bonus will be applied to each character.

It will be possible to change your equipment between each fight.

All spells will be maxed to level 6. As for the characteristics, everyone will have 101 points in each basic characteristic in addition to the 995 basic points. You will also have unlimited resets.

The waiting area between matches

We think putting everyone on an equal footing is imperative in order to include as many participants and spectators as possible for this first inter-server tournament. However, we are not closed to the idea of organizing a tournament of the same kind where each person brings their own equipment. It's a way of challenging players who always optimize their character a little more day by day!

That's it for the first few bits of information; as for the rest, you'll have to wait a little longer to find out more. We reserve the right to modify some of these points before the actual tournament and we will be listening to your comments and suggestions!

Economy Balancing

2018 will also be the opportunity for our game designer [Yawn] to adjust your servers' economies, which aren't in the best of shape! There are too many kamas in circulation, certain resources are losing value, Marketplace prices are plummeting… There are so many things we'd like to work on!

[Yawn] will tell you more about it.

Why are you intervening in the economy?

We addressed the subject of the economy last year, when we removed kamas as rewards for repeatable quests (Captain Amakna, Dopples, etc.) with the aim of limiting kama creation. This year, we want to continue doing so as a way of stabilizing the economy. In other words, we're trying to get as close as possible to an equilibrium where kamas created by the game (quest rewards, monsters, achievements, etc.) do not exceed (at least not by much) kamas that are destroyed (banks, Zaaps, Marketplaces, etc.).

We would like to remind you that this equilibrium is important, because it ensures the very value of the currency and encourages exchanges.

What will be the first change?

For 2018, the Almanax will be our top priority in this series of economic measures, because it is currently the greatest in-game source of kama generation.

Just to remind you, every day, the Almanax offers a quest asking you to make an offering to that day's Meridia.

When these quests were created, their aim was to encourage players to try some new content every day and to vary their activities. Above all else, the rewards provided (whether kamas or XP) were intended to reward this effort. For all practical purposes, this series of quests is now the main in-game source of kama creation.

This is because even if you buy resources, the money from that transaction is not destroyed - it is merely transferred to another player. Rewards in kamas, on the other hand, are created out of nothing, injecting a huge quantity of currency into the game on a daily basis. That's why we've chosen to concentrate on this point in particular. You'll find out more about this in the coming months, but rest assured, the requested items will stay the same.

What's next?

Quite clearly, the Almanax isn't our only target this year. In the game, there are many things responsible for too many kamas being generated, and just as many ways to destroy them in order to restore balance.

To name just a few of them, merchant modes, the prices NPCs pay for items, achievements, and ethereal weapons are all levers that can be modified in order to alleviate the economic imbalance.

The Shop in 2018

In mid-December, we launched the in-game shop's Prestige category, which enticed a great many players. We intend to expand it with all kinds of items for the start of each month, starting from February.

On that subject, in early March, the first Prestige pet will arrive and our team has decided to get you to vote for its bonus and food from our predefined list. We're counting on you!

vote for the pet bonus

As indicated in the devblog above, Prestige items will be merely cosmetic or will have an equivalent (in terms of bonuses) in the classic shop, or even right in the game.

Regarding this famous classic shop, we will continue to rotate items every week.

Tell us what you'd like to see on sale this year in the comments!

What else for the rest of the year?

We've already said too much! Not yet? Well here's some more!

Seasonal Content

Saint Ballotwine, Vulkania Island, Horrib Isle, and Kwismas Island will also be back in 2018; we won't rule out making a few changes and additions to some of these zones.

Time to get some sun on Vulkania Island!

Social Features

This year we would also like to make life easier for guilds. First, the recruitment channel (/r) will no longer be by zone, similar to the newbies channel that is now accessible from anywhere in the World of Twelve.

We hope that this will facilitate in the recruitment of guild members but also in groups for dungeons and the like. We will be keeping an eye on the flow of messages in this channel to see if the change is working as intended.

We are also looking at the directory of guilds and alliances.

Finally, we also plan to study features like "messages of the day / message of guilds or alliances" based on your feedback.

End of Year Content

We will celebrate the end of the year with a new feature that is both significant and unprecedented! This one proposes a competitive and multi-level PvM content and winds up the theme of the year.

Sharpen your combat prowess by facing new monsters in order to unlock various items and equipment.

You will learn more throughout the year, stay tuned!

Possible New Content

We have plans to add more content, new lairs? Or new areas like Horrib Isle? Or zone extensions? Nothing is final yet, so it's hard to tell you more. What PvM content would you prefer to experience?

Is that it? Not at all, but it's too early to reveal any more details.

We'll continue to work on the game's ergonomics, fix various bugs, and intensify our fight against modified clients, bots and kama trafficking.

That's it for the first details we can currently give you about 2018!

Behind the Scences of DOFUS Touch

[Ziphlot]'s Spot

Introduced in the article about what lies behind community management, [Ziphlot] has indeed learned his way around it alongside [Nyom]. Here he is to tell you more about his arrival on the team!

My arrival at Ankama has been very eventful! Actually, I came here the day before the Kwismas beta, with its whole changelog and changes that affected the game. You could say I was thrown in at the deep end.

As for my duties, they're now well defined. Hunting bots is one of my priorities and, in that regard, I work with the moderators and partly manage the team along with [Nyom]. (On that subject, if you want to lend us a hand in the anti-bot fight, please read this post to find out how to report them in mere seconds!)

But he does give me some freedom, don't get me wrong!

I'm autonomous when it comes to community events and I take care of the Game Masters. As a reminder, they are volunteers on an equal footing with moderators, so be cool with them. I manage the small team currently made up of [Morre-Jivant] and [Malvadar-Jandric]. Together, we review your proposals. Please contact me if you have any ideas: I'm all ears!

Moreover, some of you didn't wait for me to give you the green light, because I'm already working on some event projects involving them. Very soon on the forum, you'll be able to find how to go about suggesting in-game events to me.

Otherwise, more generally, I received a warm welcome, and I'm really happy to have joined the DOFUS Touch team. I hope I'll live up to your expectations and that my work will stand out to you in the future!

After [Okajin]

As we already told you in the last missive, [Okajin], our (former) tester, left Ankama in December. The DOFUS Touch team's testers are helping us out while we wait for a new recruit to join us and get trained to work full time on DOFUS Touch.

Incidentally, hiring an extra server developer to help [Bob] out is progressing well, as our team in Japan has started on a few interviews.

The Staff: Seasoned Players or Just Noobs?

Some members of the team, such as [Yawn], [Bob], [Ziphlot], and [Nyom] (quadruple finalist of the Goultarminator – no, just kidding) have been playing DOFUS for several years, so DOFUS Touch doesn't hold any secrets for them, and they are always thrilled when there is new content to discover!

The other team members started playing the game when they arrived on the project, and regularly play together. We think this is necessary so we can best understand the features we'd like to develop, identify ergonomic problems, and so on.

Over 2,000 words… It's already the end of this tenth missive! As always, feel free to leave us your reactions and questions below in the comments section. We take the time to read them all and to reply to as many of you as possible!

The Backstory of DOFUS Touch

$

In the beginning, there was nothing, a void… How about learning a bit more about the backstory, that element that lets us all soak up the game universe and become part of it? Let's go, follow the guide!

What is DOFUS Touch's backstory and how is it created?

A backstory, or background story, is the history of a game, book or creative endeavor that defines its context. DOFUS Touch is part of the "Krosmoz" and the context of the game is therefore based on it, and it serves as a reference to build the story.

Next, there is the universe itself: DOFUS Touch contains fictitious gods invented from scratch that govern the "World of Twelve" and have followers.

Then, there was a defining event – the theft of the Primordial Dofus on "The Cursed Day" – and the resulting main quest in which players try to reunite these Dofus. This quest makes it possible to bring into play protagonists who have already played a major role in the story prior to this event in order to fuel the intrigue, and cause and explain events that affect the backstory.

All these elements must work together in order to prevent inconsistencies and make sure players don't get lost between what happened in the universe before they arrived and what they discover as they advance in the game.

So, does that mean everyone can change it?

Well, no! Only game designers can alter the backstory: They are the ones that modify it and add to it as they produce game updates. They use past and future elements to dream up continuations and content.

As players, it is therefore theoretically impossible to bring a god into an in-game event for example; that would be inappropriate and not fit into the backstory.

What about DOFUS Touch in all that?

As [Tot] emphasized in the first issue of Gamakna, it is almost impossible to establish an exhaustive backstory that answers every question. However, certain choices can be justified by, for example, explaining that DOFUS Touch is set in the years before DOFUS. But that's one of many valid explanations.

You could also say that the two games happen at the same time, but that the inhabitants do not experience the same things.

Calling a volunteer Game Master!

[Morre-Jivant], a French speaking volunteer Game Master in DOFUS, currently preparing his arrival on the French DOFUS Touch servers after a very promising first event on Oshimo, answered a few questions that will give you a little more information.

How can players use the backstory?

One of the first reflexes among players just getting started in role play (RP) is to use aspects of the official DOFUS Touch backstory. One of the essential rules of RP is to not use characters from the backstory directly, and to draw a distinction between gameplay and the RP universe. It's best to use the context and the story.

Thus, you can use the background to explain things in a factual manner: "I'm organizing a tournament in honor of the great Iop warrior Goultard," for example. However, you cannot claim that Goultard himself has sent you on a mission. If you did, you'd be changing the story without having the right to do so.

What should we look at if we're interested in role-playing (RP) in DOFUS Touch?

There are many resources – official and unofficial – to satisfy your thirst for knowledge. The Krosmoz, Almanax and official news sites are sure things when it comes to the backstory.

Take a look at the Roleplay section of the official DOFUS forums, the Dofus RP wiki, and various players' blogs. Libraries, certain NPCs and books you can buy in the game can also satisfy your curiosity about the story this game provides!

How do you explain certain differences between DOFUS and DOFUS Touch?

[Halden], a game designer and major player in the Krosmoz backstory*, explains this in detail

The principle behind Ankama's transmedia approach is to never tell the same story twice. So, inside a single universe, we explore several eras and several contexts. We also offer parallel stories and stories that complete each other, but from different points of view.

So, the cloudy peaks of Incarnam are not exactly the same in DOFUS and DOFUS Touch? That's not really a problem; they illustrate the concept of a dimension in which souls take living form. Even though the Sidimote Moors are not portrayed in the same way, they keep their fundamental characteristic – a land where life is hard, an ailing land, dominated by the presence of Brakmar.

We can see these two versions of the World of Twelve as two paintings that have many similarities but do not focus on the same details.

So, there's no need to look for complicated explanations to justify the differences between the two games. It's important to not get confused and stay consistent with the backstory, but there's no need to create an overly rigid framework… because the myths and legends of the Krosmoz emerge from a bubbling cauldron.

Finally, if you want to enliven your experience and master the game history, you can visit the Krosmoz site where there's a very detailed timeline: www.krosmoz.com. You'll learn everything about the World of Twelve from before its creation to today!

Today, it's Hedgehog Day! In celebration of this and to honor these small and adorably spiky creatures, let's take a peek at what's happening with the World of Twelve's favorite family of prickly monsters.

You all know the Prespics – those spiny beasts who delight in removing your AP and then camouflaging themselves so you can't get revenge. And then, when you finally have a chance to get the best of them, you realize that their fur isn't anywhere near soft!

So, in your opinion, all servers combined, how many Prespics are going to take a trip to the cemetery on Friday, February 2?

Take your best guess in the comments; the person who comes closest will win the following prizes:

  • 3 Chill Pills
  • 1 day Bonus Pack

Only one entry per person, and no changing your entry.

If no one guesses the exact number, the person who comes closest will win the prize. In the event of a tie, the person who gave their answer first will win the prize.

You have until Sunday, February 4 at 11:59 PM CET to play.

Good luck and happy counting!
