[Devblog] Character Creation Interface

Meet the new character creation screen.

Hello all,

I'm dTb, and I'm a big fan of turn-based video games and board games. I've been programming since my earliest childhood. I've been on the DOFUS Touch team for over a year and have mainly worked on implementing spells, as well as on the character creation screen.

Many of you have asked us for more information about the development of DOFUS Touch, so it's with great pleasure that we're unveiling this dedicated blog. It may not be visible from the outside, but our the project team is working relentlessly to improve it – feedback from beta testers has been especially useful to accomplish this task.

Day after day, the final bugs are falling under the attack of our tireless programmers, performance is improving, and new functions are being implemented.

Today, we are going to present the character creation screen to you, which up to now has been quite spartan:

It's functional, greatly inspired by its PC counterpart, but we want to improve and adapt it even further for touch support. So here's a preview of what it will soon look like:

You will have immediately noticed that its graphical aspect has been greatly improved, but that's not all:

  • The choice of class and other graphical customizations are now divided between two separate screens, which will lighten this step (so important in a character's life) and make it much more pleasant.
  • The text and button size has been increased to be easier to read.
  • The size of the color picker has also been increased. It now uses a new algorithm, immunizing it against "big finger" problems, all the while making it more accurate.
  • Color slots are now pre-filled with the character's default color, to more quickly identify which slot corresponds to which part of the body. No need to press all the buttons to find the skin color any more!

We hope that you will enjoy this new interface.

Looking at these first images, what do you think?

DOFUS Touch has now been available in closed beta for around 6 months. The more curious among you have been able to follow its development on the official forums or on the official Twitter account. Today, we offer you an overall glance at how the beta is advancing and a bit more information about the future of the game.

Our objectives

For several months, we've been offering at least one update a week for the beta in order to provide corrections or to activate DOFUS Touch's exclusive new features (you'll discover a few of those further down). Currently, our teams are concentrating on resolving various bugs in order to offer you the best possible version of the game when it's released.

At the beginning of March, the developers finished off the bugs with WebGL on Android which kept numerous players from launching the game. DOFUS Touch should now function on all Android tablets at least 7" in size. For iOS, you'll need at least an iPad 2 running iOS 8 or higher. You should also understand that the quality of the game can vary from tablet to tablet, depending on technical specifications.

The beta in numbers

Jonquille will tell you more about some of the numbers for the beta:

Lots of you are asking how the beta is going: if we're making progress, how the bug-tracking is going, are there enough players in the beta... In short, a lot of questions that I can answer very precisely: with numbers! I've prepared for you a selection to show you that the beta is advancing, and in the right way. Of course, it's not complete, but it will give you a global idea of the project.
Stats DOFUS Touch

For the most interested, Jonquille has amassed more than 20 million kamas. Who's Jonquille? Well, first of all it's me, but it's also the merchant mode made available to players to let them have the highest-level resources as well as some low-level equipment. And at the beginning of the beta, everyone thought that it would be impossible to make kamas on DOFUS Touch! Things have really changed since then, and each one of you now has what they need to buy whatever they're missing.

DOFUS Touch's new exclusive features

Several devblogs are already available to discuss all of the new things in the public area of the official forum, more specifically, here.

You can also discover the follower NPC Joris, who will accompany new players all throughout their adventures in Incarnam in order to ground them in the basics of the game. You'll also see that the character creation interface and the shop interface as well have been completely revised.

Shop DOFUS Touch

Also new, the new Marketplace is now accessible from anywhere thanks to a simple shortcut button.

And to wrap up, a new discussion channel will soon appear for all characters of level 30 maximum. It should assist in better welcoming new players, because some more experienced players will have permanent access. This way, they can respond to the questions posted there.

Here's what the player Tanis thinks of these new functionalities:

I could hardly contain the excitement of my fingers when I came to test DOFUS Touch, the faithful port of the DOFUS MMO to the tablet. The idea of rediscovering the game and starting a new adventure on a new platform were the principal motivations. The application starts and you can't help but smile before that logo that we all know. For my part, after nine years of the game, I felt I'd be on pretty familiar ground: the right reflexes and actions already ready to go.

First shock, the avatar selection is more intuitive than on PC, with visuals that catch the eye, and responsive tools that fulfill our wants concerning color personalization. You can't help but look at Touch with fresh eyes. You may know the game, but not like this. Once your character has been created, Incarnam is unveiled and we ask ourselves what a new player would think of the game. The mission of this area - to explain the gameplay basics of combat and careers - is carried off perfectly. I was happy to find Ganymede, even without his Arachnee. One can't get lost: there's Joris, a follower character who delivers a plethora of advice even though the players aren't nice to him, since you have to hit him to interact with him (on Touch, you have to hit things with your fingers to perform actions). DOFUS Touch takes place in the Krosmoz. Let's be clear: when you know the game, everything goes very quickly, and you pick it up rapidly, and then you marvel at all the particularities that make Touch different from it's elder, like rapid notifications in combat.

The next logical step is thinking about improvements that could make the game even more comfortable... and a lot of comfort is gained by having the portable Marketplace. No matter where you are, you can conduct business with the touch of a button. I rejoiced in being able to buy bread from the middle of a dungeon, and sell my ore directly from the depths of the mine. Here and there, I ventured out into the light of day to find some companions (bots are inexistent in the depths of the mines), and there, the use of space on the screen is vital. Communicating without blocking the entire screen is a challenge that the studio is currently winning with the appearance of dialog balloons. Whether it's the NPCs or the other players, the immersion is more intense. One thing is sure: When you play Touch, you completely rediscover a game you thought you knew, and you end up waiting for the devblogs with impatience.
And our teams aren't going to quit while they're ahead! Mejin, a DOFUS Touch developer, can tell you more:

We're currently working on adding some new functionalities to improve familiarization with combat. First of all, we're adding a bit more color and animation to the combat grid. It will now be animated and more interactive than the old version, where you had to select a spell then tap on the screen to activate it. The new functionality will be "drag to cast". We think that this system will be faster and more intuitive than tapping on the screen. In other news, we're adding target indicators and area-of-effect displays, to help you when you cast a spell. This will include indicators to show you if you're targeting your allies or your enemies when you cast spells with a large area-of-effect. We hope that you'll find these new functionalities nicer and more practical.

Access to the closed beta

No fewer than 6,000 were given access to the closed beta, across several different methods: contests on the DOFUS and DOFUS Touch Twitter accounts, contests with different partners (jeuxvideo.com, JeuxOnLine...), YouTube and fan site contests, and finally through our SurveyMonkey questionnaires.

The beta testers will be rewarded with an exclusive title in the game and on the official forum, and by free Bonus Pack days depending on how much time they spent in the beta. At the moment, we can't tell you what will be in them.

Community life

The ambiance in this beta has been excellent, with everyone helping one another. We'd really like to thank all the testers for their kindness and their involvement.

It's also due in part to a project that we started with the collaboration of certain testers, which you've surely seen being discussed in the public part of the forum: the welcome guild. There will be an article on this subject in the weeks to come and will be renewed for the official release of the game.

The leader of the beta's welcome guild, Cait Sith, will tell you more:

When Nyom contacted me to talk to me about the welcome guild project, I was immediately interested, given that it's already a bit what I was doing when the beta started. Then throughout the discussions, tests, and observing the system in game, I really saw the potential of the welcome guilds in terms of communicating our passion to newcomers in the universe of Dofus. Thanks to various exchanges with the devs through the Community Management team, and their strong interest in creating a successful game, we've managed to create some features exclusive to DOFUS Touch which will permit, I'm sure, seasoned players to play alongside newcomers. The principle of a welcome guild will fully make sense once the official release comes, and I'm more motivated than ever to take part in this adventure!
Alliance DOFUS Touch

Several in-game events have been offered to the testers not only by our community management team but also by the community itself! Manhunts, "dungeon races", raffles with different prizes to win for Saint Potrick, quizzes, and even more.

We were also happy to see the first fan site emerge, created by Cait Sith, and we invite you to go take a look: Papycha.fr.

Also, we'd like to take advantage of DOFUS Touch's launch to bring your attention to some new YouTubers. For example, Asilaron, who has already done several videos of the beta. Asilaron's next videos will be available on the official game site and also on the Papycha fan site.

And finally, DOFUS Touch welcomed the beta's first level 200 player in mid-April, a player named Hera! Congratulations on the accomplishment; he'll get a special title once the game's released.

DOFUS Touch: meet up!

Last Friday, April 22, 4 of the closed beta's most invested players were invited to Ankama:

  • Cait-Sith, leader of the welcome guild Au Bazar de Papycha
  • Choupa-Chou, the welcome guild's right hand
  • Asilaron, DOFUS Touch YouTuber
  • Blowndie, DOFUS Touch YouTuber and streamer

They had the opportunity to visit the company, located in Roubaix, before testing out some new features that hadn't yet been implemented in the beta. Among them: the follower NPC Joris, dialog balloons, drag & drop in combat, and the new map loading.

Then there was a first debriefing during which our four guests were able to share their impressions of these new features with  Okajin (Tester), Furylaxx (UX Designer), XyaLe (DOFUS Community Manager), Nyom (DOFUS Touch Community Manager), Jonquille (DOFUS Touch Producer) et Poupik (Lead Community Manager).

The morning then finished with a roundtable during which the players asked us all their (numerous!) questions about the game and how it was evolving. An exchange that lasted no less than an hour and a half!

At the start of the afternoon, Jonquille, Blowndie, and Asilaron led the first DOFUS Live focusing on DOFUS Touch. On the program: a presentation of the game and a question and answer session. You can by the way find the entire replay here.

Finally, another debriefing with all the participants brought the day to a close. It was a very instructive day, as much for the players as for the staff.

We hope to be able to do this sort of thing again in the future, and we'd like to thank our guests again for their enthusiasm and for the moments we shared around DOFUS Touch!

Find out what Cait thought on the fan site dedicated to the game: "Un vendredi à Ankama!"

DOFUS Touch release

The game will be released in Canada at the end of May before arriving in France, where we're targeting the first semester 2016. When the game is released in France, the players of the relevant community will start on a new server and won't be with the Canadian players. The beta will close its doors definitively once it's released in Canada.

As stated in the letter to the community, the game will start in Canada for two reasons:

  • it will allow us to launch the game in two languages at once (French and English), in real conditions;
  • new players, who have never played DOFUS, will be able to give us feedback not only on the game, but on the universe in general.

At the moment, we can't give you precise dates. We'll keep you informed as soon as we have any more information!

We hope that this letter answered your questions. If there are still things you want to know, please consult the FAQ or pose your question in the comments below.

We'll see you soon with even more news!

DOFUS Touch unleashes the Goultines!

$

A free online game that requires no monthly subscription, DOFUS Touch also differentiates itself from its older sibling DOFUS through its economic model: Goultines have now replaced Ogrines, and Kamas may now be used for in-game purchases! Follow the guide...

Have you earned a lot of Kamas while playing? Do you have Goultines that you purchased with Euros? No matter where your riches come from, in DOFUS Touch, players may pay for all items and services in the shop, as well as items available in the Market, interchangeably with Kamas or Goultines!

Have you seen a Set in the Marketplace that would help you explore the dungeon of your dreams? Prices for this Set, which was put up for sale by another player, are displayed in both Kamas and Goultines: you may purchase it using whatever currency you possess. Either way, the seller will receive payment in Kamas for the items they have sold.
Do you see a pet in the shop that you're itching to buy? Here again, the price is indicated in both Goultines and Kamas, and you may make your purchase with the currency of your choice.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This system is made possible thanks to an equivalency rate between Goultines and Kamas, inspired by the Kama stock market and determined by economists, based on complex mathematical formulas. This rate, which is specific to each server, will be updated automatically at regular intervals, depending on the "monetary" flows generated by the players' actions (without any outside intervention; only purchases made by players in Kamas and Goultines will influence the rate) .
As a result, Goultine prices in the Market and Kama prices in the shop may vary in order to remain consistent with the evolution of each server's economy.
Furthermore, this system gives players access to all content in the Market and the shop, whether they possess Kama or Goultines.

WHAT CAN WE FIND IN THE SHOP?

Several categories of items, which you are already familiar with if you have played DOFUS on a computer, will be available: sets, familiars, mounts, attitudes...
And what's more, Bonus Packs will soon be introduced! Valid for 7 or 30 days, they will give you a 50% bonus on XP (combat and professions) and drops. As with other items, these packs will be available for purchase with both Goultines and Kamas.

IN BRIEF...

To sum up, what can be bought and how?

➜ With fiat currencies, you may purchase Goultines.

➜ With Goultines, you may purchase:
° all items in the shop and in Bonus Packs
° all items available in-game (whether sold in the Market or by a Merchant), thanks to an automatic Goultine/Kama conversion (the seller receives the price of the item in kamas).

➜ With Kamas, you may purchase:
° all items available in-game
° all items in the shop and in Bonus Packs

There, now you know everything there is to know about buying items in DOFUS Touch!

New game, new server, new adventure in the World of Twelve. Yep, you’re starting again from scratch! So many of you have been waiting for the chance to come face to face with other players in different aspects of the game. But how competitive are you?

Professions, characters, guilds, alone or in a group: there’s something here for everyone! Plenty of you want to win the race to the top of the game, and that’s fine by us! We love a bit of healthy competition! That’s why we’ve decided to honour and reward our most invested players!

To those that are crafters at heart...
We’re giving a Primordial Shield to each player who is the first to reach level 100 in a profession. In addition to being the only ones on the server, they will unlock an exclusive title for their owner.

For XP lovers...
We’re offering an exclusive title to the first player to level 100 and to the first to level 200 on the server.

To those who like working together...
We will reward all members of the first guild on the server to reach level 100 with 2 days of Bonus Packs (XP and drop bonus)

And if all three of these objectives appeal to you, know that it is possible for the same person to win several of these rewards! What’s more, it should be noted that the latter will also be unlockable on all upcoming DOFUS Touch servers, with the same conditions.

Are you ready? We’ll know soon enough! See you in game tomorrow... and let the games begin!

The Dungeon Tour

Ah, DOFUS Touch... Its vast territories that are just waiting to be explored, its unusual monsters... And here you are! But before you set off to discover the World of Twelve, you begin your adventure on Incarnam, where you’re waiting for the first stage of your Dungeon Tour!

The game content is so vast and varied that sometimes you need a little help to know where to begin. That’s why we’re giving you the chance to take part in an initial community show that takes you on a Dungeon Tour that will see you visiting some key locations at the beginning of DOFUS Touch!

From today, and until Sunday 12th June at 23:59, fight and KO these four bosses in their dungeons to win the Legend of the Dungeons Boots and a Gobtubby:
  • The Snoowolf, hiding at the back of Incarnam Dungeon.
  • The Famished Sunflower, buried away in Mawy Ingalsse’s barn and in the Field Dungeon.
  • Sponge Mob, in his Sand Dungeon. (But first, you’ll need to have a lot of patience to sit and listen to the chatterbox Captain Fatchark…)
  • The Royal Gobball and his flock of gobballs have invaded the Tainelan Farm. Head over to the Gobball Dungeon to meet this grumpy character.

You don’t have to complete them in this order, but we recommend that newer players do so, because they increase steadily in difficulty this way. And don’t let appearances deceive you! These bosses may look like butter wouldn’t melt, but nothing could be further from the truth. It would be wise to form groups of several adventurers before paying them a visit!

Don’t waste any time and don’t think twice about posting in this thread to find fellow warriors and come out of the Dungeon Tour victorious. Good luck to you all!

DOFUS Touch Missive #2

Since June 9, the Canadians have had the opportunity to slide their fingers across DOFUS Touch. How did the launch go, and how does the game fare now? Let's check this up together!

DOFUS Touch arrived in Canada, not exactly with its hands in its pockets, but nonetheless whistling a joyful tune! Although minor issues did disrupt the first gaming hours, the team was up to the task and very reactive, and was able to fix them quickly; for example, the Frigost area was at first unavailable, but this issue was fixed within a few hours.

As soon as DOFUS Touch launched, several articles popped up all over the gaming web: famous websites such as TouchArcade and PocketGamer took notice of the event, and we thank them for that!
Various acquisition operations are now being evaluated internally, in order to develop the nascent community; but we'll get back to you later about that!

Statistics

We know you love statistics... here are some that might be of interest to you.
Grandapan stats

The first level 100 on the server is a Cra by the name of Takastle. You can follow the ladder on the official website.

At the time we are writing this news, DOFUS Touch boasts a 3.8/5 rating on Google's PlayStore, and a 3.5/5 rating on the App Store. These are nice results for the first launch of a game as massive as DOFUS Touch. But we hope we can do better, and our teams are working around the clock to improve your gaming experience!

However, if you happen to like the game, please do not hesitate to give it a rating on your store and share it with your friends.

The economy

The Goultines are at the center of many a discussion, but you'll be happy to learn that the system is working like a charm in the Grandapan server's live conditions; the rate changes in order to stay coherent with the server's economic evolution.

By the way, the Lakeside Palace has already been bought, for a Goultine price amounting to nearly 300 CAD.

Of course, the shop is working just as well. A stock rotation of the items offered for sale is done once a week. In addition to this, we are doing frequent flash sale offers, lasting for a day or two. Here's what the shop looks like on Grandapan.

It is possible that the prices that are displayed here may change in the future.

Bots, emulators, and multi-accounting

We are aware that a lot of players have questions about our policy regarding bots, emulators, and multi-accounting. [Jonquille] recently had the opportunity to answer such questions on the official forums (in this thread, to be precise):

« I think we need to clarify some points that have been brought up in this thread, since there are a lot of things that are being said but that are wrong.

First, I will talk about multi-accounting, at the risk of making some of you grate their teeth. We never claimed that DOFUS Touch would be a golden opportunity for a mono-accounting server. Though I am personally glad that DOFUS Touch seems to be following this trend, this is not our will. As such, multi-accounting will be tolerated, as on any current DOFUS server.

However, as we have said many times, we do not condone the use of emulators. We are going to fight actively against those in the coming months. Even though we are well aware that it would be nearly impossible to reduce the number of usable emulators to nil, we will endeavour to make them much more difficult to use.

While I greatly appreciate your commitment to DOFUS Touch (honest to the Gods), your solutions so far seem to me to be technically easy to work around. But don't worry, we have some leads to follow up.

Furthermore, I'd like to draw your attention to a crucial point. You seem to think that access to the game should be automatic and possible for every DOFUS player, that it would be "normal". But that's simply not true. If you have a tablet and you are able to invest yourself on this version, then that's great! I am aware that, for various reasons, this version is interesting to you. However, our target is (and always has been) new players, which means players outside our community. If a player is unable to play DOFUS Touch because they don't have a tablet, then they can keep investing themselves on DOFUS, which is a very good game!

In closing, let's talk about bots. We are of course aware of the issue, and we are not denying their presence in the game. Please rest assured that while this is a delicate issue, this is mfirst and foremost one which we want to fight against from the very start on DOFUS Touch. If, at the moment, responses are late, it is because we are looking at the best solutions we could put together so that we would not see them coming back right away. »

We hope that this will help answer your questions!

The welcome guild

« The « Heroes of Tomorrow » welcome guild had a pretty rocky start; the influx of new players proved especially complicated to handle on the first days and unfortunately, many have not fully understood the exact objective of such guilds. It is a project that we hold close to heart; we think that welcoming new players is important, helping them at the beginning of the game and offering them a progression in the best possible conditions.

As such, we have decided to stop the Heroes of Tomorrow guild for the time being. This first experience let us stress test the concept further, in working conditions, and we think it would be healthier and better for the next welcome guild to start off fresh and anew.

Next, we intend to launch a public recruitment campaign in order to target more precisely the players who might be interested and motivated by the welcome guild concept, so that we may launch the next guild in the weeks to come.

We invite you to read the Devblog article about welcome guilds in order to learn more on this topic.

What about the French release?

Now that's something a lot of you are wondering about! And we can easily understand why. However, and even though all lights are green for a DOFUS Touch release in France in a reasonable time frame, we are unable to tell you a precise date today.
We are aware that your patience is wearing thin on this issue. But longer is better, isn't it? :)

Still, please rest assured that we are still aiming for a Summer launch, sometime between July and August. So you won't have to wait a long time!

At the moment, the team is working on fixing the remaining bugs and improving the game conditions.

And on that note, we have reached the end of this new missive! Please do not hesitate to comment or ask any question that would be gnawing at you, we would be glad to discuss them with you!

On July 21st, while some people were getting ready to pull several all-nighters in a row, others were getting started on a 24 hour non-stop live stream on Twitch. Why? For the French language launch of DOFUS Touch, that's why! Here's an initial assessment of this new adventure.
Missive DOFUS Touch 3

STATISTICS

As usual, [Jonquille] gets the ball rolling with a few statistics (she likes that, apparently!):

"It's with great pleasure that we're observing the Oshimo server's development. Since it's been open, everything's been going like a dream! The server's doing well; the players are indeed present and highly active on the server. It's all very encouraging for us, and we have great hopes for this game's future. So that you too can congratulate yourselves – after all, you're the ones who are bringing the game to life – here are a few figures which should enlighten you about the server's health!"
Oshimo in numbers

Bonus information: the first character to reach level 100 on the Oshimo server is called Towbal, an Osamodas. The exclusive title of "Golden Toucher" has been conferred on him; well done!

1er lvl 100 Oshimo

Now let's talk about some figures which don't involve in-game play. For several days now, DOFUS Touch has benefitted from being highlighted by Apple in their "Best New Games" category. The application also stayed in the top 2 best free games on the App Store for its first few days. And even if this is no longer the case, the figures are still promising; we continue to welcome over 13,000 players per day.

DOFUS Touch is – at the time of writing this – rated 4/5 on both the App Store and Google Play! We'll let you imagine how excellent a result that is for a game of such scale on tablet platforms. The bottom line is that we're ecstatic! Of course, with how well things are going, we're not going to stop now…

WHAT ARE THE GAME TEAMS WORKING ON NOW?

All the same, a few problems have persisted, and our teams are doing their best to resolve them. Right now, the biggest thorn in the developers' side is crashes on Android. Because they're so awesome, they've already identified that the problem is linked to a malfunction with the sound. Tests are being carried out, and we hope to roll out a patch before the end of summer. Less important bugs are also being constantly ironed out, as you'll notice from the weekly updates. Incidentally, don't forget to take a look at the log to stay informed!

Other developers are working in parallel on the game's ergonomics. This is the case – for example – for [Kubicle], who is reworking the breeding interface. Here he is to explain the issues of this redesign:

Fiche DD WIP
[WIP]

"The breeding interface is currently very difficult to use. We'd put it to one side for the moment, since the servers were new; but judging by players' progress, it was getting important to modify it. It's a complex feature that requires many decisions regarding user behavior and information to display: what information to display, how to display it, and where to display it? How should we let players carry out this or that action, and how could we make the interface fluid and enjoyable?

With the help of [Jonquille] and [Spartadra], we made the right decisions; the interface is now a pleasure to use! The gestures to move Dragoturkeys are simpler, and their mini-specs are more detailed… You'll find out more about this in due course, but here's a preview I think you'll like."

A redesign of the login page is also on the agenda. If you hadn't realized it, this page is the first one new players see! Right now, it's good, but we have to admit that it could be better. That's why it's essential that we work on this interface.

With the help of [Furylaxx], we're getting down to it: everything from color and clarity, to news displayed directly from the website! So yes, it's now impossible for you to miss events to win the latest trendy Set; everything will be on your screen when you log in. Isn’t life wonderful?

We won't leave you dissatisfied, so here's what it'll look like:

The developers' lair

Where is all this developed? As you might have discovered during the DOFUS Touch team's presentation, the game is developed in Japan and [Jonquille] has provided us with a few photos!

" This is where we think over your problems, where we tackle bugs and prepare new features for you. It's also from here that we observe you - or rather, we observe your progress and evolution, and rejoice to see you enjoying yourself! In the heart of Tokyo, this little block of offices is the team's stronghold. True, not everything is put away and organized on our desks, but there's a good reason."

DEBRIEFING OF THE JULY 23RD MEETING

On July 23rd, ten or so players were invited to Ankama's premises to celebrate the launch of DOFUS Touch in France. It gave them the opportunity to present their ideas and ask questions at a very informative opinion-gathering session, attended by [Okajin] and myself. We wanted to use this missive to reply publicly to some of their feedback! By the way, if you also have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask them; we're here to reply.

"The beginners' channel is a real hotchpotch, and I'm not sure it really helps beginners."
This channel was indeed really active in the days after the game went online! Some more experienced players hijacked it and instead used it to trade, for example. We therefore lowered the channel's maximum level limit to 20. New arrivals in the game can now make the most of the channel and ask their questions more clearly.

"The beginning of the game is quite a lot to handle; there's too much information and text to absorb. Wouldn't mini-videos be of interest?"
That's something which is technically much more complex to create than you might imagine. Moreover, we don't think that videos would change the amount of information to be absorbed. Nonetheless, we do appreciate the idea; rest assured that we think constantly about the way in which new players are welcomed. Joris – the character who follows you around in DOFUS Touch – is a good example!

"Communicating in fights is difficult, even with the instant messaging system."
We recognize that it's a useful system, but one that's not yet perfectly optimized. We're planning on changing all that, but we can't give you a precise date for now… It's hard, we know; sorry :-S

"What's the situation with the group search system?"
It's a feature that we want to put in place in DOFUS Touch, but maybe not in the same way as in the PC version of DOFUS. The topic's still under consideration, and it would be a major project to undertake.

"Could it be possible to use Goultines for players to trade directly with each other?"
Actually, this is strictly forbidden by Apple and Google. However, we think this is made up for sufficiently by the ability to use Goultines at Markets and in merchant mode.

Once again, it was a great pleasure to meet players from all backgrounds, and we can't wait to do it again. [Jonquille] will surely be present next time (well, if she behaves herself)!

Miliboowolves in the sheepfold

It is customary for Rotable the Shepherd to ask you to pay a visit to the Royal Gobball in order to help calm it down. But, for the time being, a truce of sorts seems to be in effect between both parties... What's going on in Tainela?
Meulou Event

Everyone is on edge in the Tainela countryside; it's been a few hours now that miliboowolves have invaded the area, and the gobball herds are in trouble! Rotable and his friends in Astrub City Council have a lead: it seems the Moowolf* has tasked its minions in the Astrub forest to flood the place. Miliboowolves in the sheepfold? What is this World (of Twelve) coming to?

After getting the authorization from Fallanster, the head of Astrub City Council, Rotable is begging you to pay a visit to the Moowolf in order to calm it down. Word has it that the beast is currently hidden at the bottom of a dark cave, in the depths of its Dungeon. Be careful, it's not exactly famous for being a warm and welcoming creature... And in the meantime, don't forget to drive the miliboowolves out of Tainela!

Of course, hard work deserves a fair reward, and you will be handsomely rewarded for your efforts! If more than 3,000 miliboowolves are killed and more than 50 adventurers strike the Moowolf down in its dungeon, the Oshimo and Grandapan players will receive 2 days worth of bonus pack.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, starts now! It will end on Sunday, August 21, at 23:59 (Paris Time).

Good luck to you all and don't forget to keep an eye on the miliboowolves in Tainela!

*If you want to know more about the Moowolf and its minions...

Boolanthropy, the transformation of a being into a Boowolf, has never been proven, much unlike Treechnanthropy, which is a known and sad affliction. As everyone knows, Boowolves are big aggressive wolves. Standing on their hind legs, they're able to get close to their opponents very fast, and then disembowel said opponent in a matter of seconds, should this opponent be a noob where fighting abilities are concerned. Herds of Boowolves roam the Eltneg woods and the edge of the Treechnid Forest; they also live in the Canidae Dungeon, West of the Koalak mountains. It is said they obey the Moowolf, some sort of Maximus Boous Lupus, a giant wolf with yellow eyes, greyish fur, and head adorned with horns. This creature is said to have made a lair out of a dark cave, deep within the Dungeon.

Detailled dragoturkey factsheet : the revamp

As you so often hear during opening speeches, when you’re stupidly standing around with a glass of champagne (that you can’t drink yet!) in your hand, “We have the pleasure of introducing” the new detailed Dragoturkey factsheet. The images will speak louder than any snoozefest speeches. Then, if you’re feeling brave, or curious, you can read the text below that describes the improvements by menu...

Clearer elements

There is less text, which has been replaced by icons. For example, the color description is replaced by one or two colored diamonds (you can still view the color names by pressing and holding). Also, there are new icons for “fertile”, “mountable”, “domestic” (= non wild), “neutered” and “sterile”.

4 indicator gauges replace the classic progress bars for Energy, Endurance, Maturity and Love. These gauges take up less space so you can see the information more clearly. The central icon, initially grayed out, “lights up” with a color when the optimum threshold is reached for this setting. Progress is also represented by a colored circular arc that is more or less filled in. The numerical value is now visible underneath the gauge.

Using the cursor with the Serenity Gauge, that is now much clearer, shows you which characteristic (Endurance, Maturity or Love) can be “worked on” with the dragoturkey at this exact moment.

Better separation of breeding information

The first tab, renamed “Breeding”, now contains all the information needed to breed your creature “in real time”. Endurance, Maturity, Love and Serenity (these four were already grouped together in the old version), as well as Tiredness, number of reproductions and time of impregnation.

The XP bar, the given XP percentage, the Mount/Climb down button and the effects have moved to the “Characteristics” tab (in the past, this tab only contained the effects).

General ergonomics

Buttons are easy to use. They’re either bigger or they have a larger activation zone.

Press and hold help bubbles have been added to the elements that need them to help you control the interface and provide more information (e.g. maximum possible value, etc.).

All of these changes are, as usual, or perhaps a little more so, due to an incalculable number of discussions, back and forths, and nitpicky negotiations about the details, between half a dozen of your servants at Ankama. We hope that the results will make life easier for the friends of dragoturkeys (on thursday !).

To be continued with, very soon, the breeding interface revamp.

Save your progress!

Playing with a guest account might seem like a good idea at first. You can log in directly without having to provide any personal information. Easy peasy, right? Beware! If you don’t register your account, you run the risk of permanently losing all your progress. Let’s try to avoid this situation!
Save your progress!

Can’t wait to play DOFUS Touch? Trust us, we get it. You download the game and click straight on the “Play” button on the login page to create your character. This quick registration-free login makes sense when you want to try out a new game.

So, you decide to give it a go! You play 1, 3, 10 hours... A few days, maybe... Actually, you’re hooked! And then you remember you already have an Ankama account, the one you use for DOFUS or one of our other games. For whatever reason, you decide to log in. And that’s when all heck breaks loose! All the progress you made on the old account (the famous “guest” account) has been lost.

At this point, it is technically impossible to recover your characters, items and kamas.

Another case scenario: You just got a new tablet for your birthday. It’s the latest generation, state of the art! Yes, but the result is the same: you can’t recover your guest account.

Oh no! What a disaster, you say! Well, not really. There is a very easy way to avoid this situation! All you need to do is register your guest account on the login page, using the link found underneath the “Play” button:

Register

You will then be asked to provide some basic information, like a username, password, email address, etc. It only takes a few seconds to save the hours of gameplay you’ll have put in!

In addition to ensuring your data can be recovered, by registering your account, you will also be able to access Support’s services more easily. If you only have a “guest” account, our advisors won’t have any information to help them help you. As a result, they won’t be able to answer any of your questions. This is not the case with an Ankama account.

There you go! Now you have all the keys you need to play DOFUS Touch with peace of mind. Have fun!

DOFUS Touch, or the adventure at the tip of your fingers, everywhere, anytime! Speaking of fingers... how about you tell us your story using yours?
#DOFUSTouchStory Contest
With DOFUS Touch, becoming a valiant adventurer has never been easier; trekking across the plains, defeating extremely powerful foes (yes, a Wild Sunflower does count as an extremely powerful foe when you're playing a level 10 Eniripsa!), making lots of friends, living through exciting stories that rival those of Lykhen, the old Enutrof... All of that is possible, with the tip of your finger!
So it makes sense that you must have had a bunch of great adventures in the last few months. And since we absolutely love stories, we want you to tell us your best in-game moments... using your fingers!

If you want to enter this contest, it's easy: take your fingers and animate them in the way that seems the most appropriate to you;
  • one or several telling pictures,
  • a fotonovela starring your fingers,
  • a video/animated gif of your story,
  • ...

You are free, as long as it's about you: your fingers, your story! And your entry, whatever the chosen medium, must not last longer than 15 seconds. On our side, Loïc tried his hand (well, part of it anyway) at it, and here's the result:

As soon as you're ready, send us your entry on Twitter using the #DOFUSTouchStory hashtag before September 30, at 23:59 (Paris Time). A jury will choose the 5 winners, and they will win the following prizes:

First place:

  • 2 months bonus pack

Second and Third place:

  • 1 month bonus pack

DOFUS Touch: available on smartphones!

Adapting the online game DOFUS to tablets has been a real challenge! It wasn't easy to cram everything in there: all 2,500 creatures, 1,400 quests, or even the 170 areas and assorted 60 dungeons. But we made it, we succeeded, and we didn't stop there! Experience right now DOFUS Touch on smartphones, everywhere and anywhere in the world!

You read that right, DOFUS Touch is now available in the whole wide world, on smartphones and tablets! Missing a group for a dungeon? Forgetting to feed a pet? This is all ancient history: the World of Twelve now follows you everywhere, comfortably installed in your pocket.

The smartphone version has exactly the same contents and servers as the tablet version; that means you can continue your adventure with your characters and your friends anywhere and anytime, and it's still all free! Ain't life grand?

As such, simply saying that DOFUS Touch is a colossal MMO for mobile devices is not saying much. As proof: 15 character classes to play, a gigantic open world to explore, fisticuffs galore with more than 90 Bosses to confront and dungeons to conquer, harvesting and crafting professions to master, the possibility to create guilds and alliances, to pick a side and defend the colours of your city, or just pick a fight against other players in PVP.

Let's be clear: your fingers and batteries had better be ready, for you won't get bored anytime soon!

In order to celebrate all that, we are offering to everyone on both servers the equivalent of a Bonus Pack, to be active until next Sunday, 23:59 (Paris Time)! And here's the cherry on top: this bonus is cumulative with the Bonus Packs that are available in the in-game shop.

The game is not available in Asia at the moment.
